Speaker A:Alright, let's dive in.
Speaker A:Maybe you've been there too.
Speaker A:You're sitting in the silence wondering why you can't hear Him.
Speaker A:I remember when I was trying to hear God's voice when I was trying to figure out his purpose for me, it seems like I tried everything.
Speaker A:I would sit at my computer desk with my tablet and start journaling as part of my daily mindset routine.
Speaker A:In the later part of my mindset routine, I would sit quietly trying to hear him so hard.
Speaker A:Morning after morning, I would only hear silence.
Speaker A:I tried playing light Catholic music in the background, thinking that would help me focus but would think to myself this was worthless.
Speaker A:I can't hear Him.
Speaker A:What's wrong with me?
Speaker A:Why can I not hear him when everybody else can hear him?
Speaker A:What I learned was that I was trying to force hearing his voice.
Speaker A:I wanted to hear him so bad that I was trying to take control instead of letting him decide when and how he would communicate to me.
Speaker A:So let's talk about what actually helped me hear him more clearly.
Speaker A:I want to give you three simple things that you can do right now to hear God's voice more clearly.
Speaker A:So the first thing is spending time in God's Word daily.
Speaker A:We want to spend time reading God's words because when we are spending time reading his words, we are listening to Him.
Speaker A:It helps us to better know him and to hear his voice.
Speaker A:And you're becoming familiar with his truths in his voice the more you spend time with him because then you start to really realize who God is.
Speaker A:So you want to grab your Catholic Bible or you can read on your favorite Catholic app.
Speaker A:And the two Catholic apps that I use, they have the Catholic Bible app within them.
Speaker A:So the choice is here.
Speaker A:You can visit basically grab your Catholic Bible, or you can use the digital apps that actually have the Bibles there.
Speaker A:Or you can even go online.
Speaker A:And this can be reading or listening to Scripture.
Speaker A:Not only are you limited to just taking your physical Bible or you're reading from an online app, you can also listen to scripture audio in today's technology world.
Speaker A:So you can do this first thing waking up or one of the first things after you grab your coffee or offer up that sacrifice of waiting to have your coffee and until you spend time with him.
Speaker A:You could also do this in the evening before going to bed.
Speaker A:So for me, I spend time with God in the mornings in prayer and reflecting on His Word as part of my morning routine.
Speaker A:And I end up my day in prayer with Him.
Speaker A:This may not look the same for you in your season of life.
Speaker A:Your life may be chaotic in the mornings like they are for me once the kids wake up.
Speaker A:So I try to spend time with God around 5:00am that's about the time I like to do.
Speaker A:And I actually have a reminder within the app to tell me.
Speaker A:And sometimes it's closer to 4am or sometimes it's closer to 7am Just depends when I wake up what my plans are for the day.
Speaker A:So you might be wondering what do I choose to read in the Bible.
Speaker A:So I've heard other Catholic women not sure of even where to begin when wanting to read the Bible.
Speaker A:The scriptures selected during your time can be the daily mass Gospel readings.
Speaker A:The two apps that I have that I use works for me that have the daily Mass readings.
Speaker A:Or you can go online to search for the daily Mass readings as well.
Speaker A:And you can read it from your physical Catholic Bible or an online version from a Catholic translation.
Speaker A:So whichever route you choose, whether you physically look at your Bible or if you decide to go through on your app or online, and then whether you decide whether to read it yourself or listen to somebody else read the Bible for you, the key thing is persistence.
Speaker A:Daily time in God's Word builds the foundation for hearing Him.
Speaker A:So the second thing that you can do to start hearing him clearly is sit with His Word and just let him speak to your heart.
Speaker A:You don't want to just read it and be done.
Speaker A:We want to read it slowly, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to us.
Speaker A:We want to be still and we want to reflect on what God is saying to us.
Speaker A:Then we want to speak to God with what's on our hearts about what we think he's speaking to us.
Speaker A:And when we do that, it opens the door for him to respond.
Speaker A:For me, when I was following along with the Bible in the year, I would not necessarily hear him there, but when I read the Gospels, that's when I would hear him more clearly.
Speaker A:So God might speak to you as you read through the Bible timeline and that's okay.
Speaker A:Or you might want to try reading through the Bible, following the Bible near with Father Mike Spitz to spend time with God and have a space for God to speak to you.
Speaker A:There again, you may want to read or listen or whatever is more comfortable for you to the daily mass readings of the Gospel of the day.
Speaker A:When you're doing this, when you're actually spending time and you're reading the Gospels, you want to pay attention to and notice the stirrings in your heart.
Speaker A:That's how you know God is speaking to you.
Speaker A:And the third thing is you want to build in silence and listen.
Speaker A:This one is huge.
Speaker A:You want to build time and silence for God to speak to you.
Speaker A:You're creating a space for God to speak back to you.
Speaker A:When you do this conversation, it's a two way relationship.
Speaker A:One talks and the other one listens, then the other talks and then the other one listens.
Speaker A:And this could be sitting in silence for five minutes.
Speaker A:And if that just feels too much right now, then start with one to two minutes and gradually build it up over time.
Speaker A:For me, it looked like sitting in the silence and reflecting after I read the gospel, reading and also sitting in silence waiting for him to speak.
Speaker A:When I would read or hear something that stood out to me or caused something in my heart to stir, then I knew it was God talking to me.
Speaker A:Here's the truth.
Speaker A:The more time we spend with him, the better we'll know him, the more familiar his voice becomes and we'll recognize it more clearly.
Speaker A:Just to recap, so here's a quick summary of what we talked about today before moving into prayer and giving you one actual step that you can start implementing today.
Speaker A:So we can't force God's voice.
Speaker A:Our role is simply to make space and let him choose when and how he speaks.
Speaker A:Spending time daily in Scripture helps us to know him better and recognize his voice more clearly.
Speaker A:Silence and reflection allows His Word to move from our heads and into our hearts where he stirs and he speaks to us.
Speaker A:Let us pray in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:God, you are a wonderful and loving God.
Speaker A:We seek to do your will for us because we know that your plans are way better than we could ever imagine for ourselves.
Speaker A:We ask that you help guide us and that the Holy Spirit can help us to hear your voice clearly so that we not only listen to your words, but help them to take root in our hearts and minds.
Speaker A:Father, we make this pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Okay, so let's put this into practice together.
Speaker A:Knowledge is power, but true change happens when we pair it with that consistent daily action.
Speaker A:We cannot gain clarity if we're not taking daily action to help us move forward.
Speaker A:So practice this today.
Speaker A:I want you to grab your Catholic Bible or if you choose the electronic version route and open it up to today's Gospel reading.
Speaker A: ,: Speaker A:Pause and reflect and ask yourself after you slowly read this, what is God telling me today?
